Somewhere out there

I don’t know who you are,
Or if you’re near or far
I don’t know if you even exist
Or whether or not I will persist

I wonder who you could be
or why you'd ever choose me
Will I really be the only one you need?
Regardless of my caste or creed?

I’ve searched for you a long, long time
Longer than I’ve been writing rhyme
If I meet you, will you truly be the one?
And will my search be finally done?

But what if I have already met you?
And you were just passing through
Or maybe we were never meant to meet
And I’m in denial and cant take defeat

Even if it feels like something’s amiss
I guess that’s just how life really is
I wonder who this will all end up with?
Or if I should accept that 'the one' is a myth

And whether or not I accept that life's not fair
I'll always wonder if you’re somewhere out there
