Our Country, Where Art Thou?

Oh Sri Lanka, what have you become? But a slave to corrupt, power hungry scum, A country once known for her welcoming smile, That nobody has seen in a really long while. Sadly, it was your people who let you down, Their thievery and greed stole your crown, They pillaged, plundered, and set you back, And it will take a miracle to get you on track. But once a glimmer of hope was ignited, Under one banner, the people stood united, They fought side by side for one great cause, To free you from the grip of those slimy claws. But “political' agendas quickly extinguished that flame, And once again they hang their heads in shame, Your legacy, your heritage and history were buried, By the very people your heart once carried. You’ve dealt with colonisers, wars even pandemics, Now you barely have fuel or food, it’s pathetic, You’ve even bowled over the world in the sports arena, How to restore that glory? The "leaders" have no idea. Your forefathers would be very disappointed, Seein

As you are

Ask yourself, "is this who I'm supposed to be?" "Is this all this world has to offer me?" "Must I be surrounded by all this negativity?" "What do I have to do to find serendipity?" Think of what you've been forced to survive  And be thankful for everyday you're alive  Be grateful for the real people, family and friends And for the loyalty that never ever bends Forget about those who have been hurtful  And all the people who only saw you as useful  Because they aren't worth the time or the effort  And you're better off without all the hurt  Always face forward, don't dwell on the past Cherish the memories, even if they are vast Don't pull the punches, fight on and fight hard  And don't let anyone make you drop your guard This is exactly who you're supposed to be  Even if some are just too ignorant to see  Strive to be the vessel of your own changes And you will overcome life's many challenges  Don't sto

Ego

They think they're better than the rest smarter, more mature, and stronger too  but in reality when they're put to the test they are the easiest people to see through They live in a bubble, a blissful ignorance in their minds, they can make no mistakes and there's no limit to their arrogance they'll get their way, no matter what it takes They always put themselves first  and be the first to call another person weak their way of quenching that hurtful thirst is by placing themselves on that peak There's no reasoning with them, not at all in their eyes, everyone else is beneath them they'll do anything to make others feel small like demean, humiliate, hurt and condemn  If only they could see the error in their hearts and understand the severity of what they inflict but they don't, even if they tear someone apart only their opinion matters, even if others contradict They're so blinded by their egos and selfish ways they think they're invincible and

Step back

Taking a step back can open our eyes  To a greater world of truth and lies  It gives us time to observe and reminisce And provides perspective we'd sometimes miss  From situations and people we already know  Things become clearer than they were before Our opinions and feelings can instantly change Even those we love, can seem distant and strange Re-evaluation is sometimes a step we need to take  Of friendships, work and other choices we make When we step back, we see all the irregularity  And more enough reason to make ourselves a priority  Some will understand and some will ignore But it's a fact of life that people come and go Reflection shows reasons why some get to stay  And opens our eyes to why we should pull away So start with yourself, it's the only way forward  Sort out your problems before you move onward  Disregard the blood, sweat and tears you spill  Cos if you don't invest in yourself, nobody else will

Detox

Sometimes we all need to take a break When the stress of life is too much to take A few days, a week, however long you need Take all time necessary, don't let anyone impede  Too much of anything can be detrimental  It takes a big toll, both physical and mental  It's okay to take a break, recharge, and unwind  We all need to destress and clear our minds  Mentally and physically, we absorb so much  From work to friendships, family, and such  We carry as much as we can possibly muster  And when it's too much, it becomes a cluster  Our schedules make it hard to deal with it all  And we bottle it up no matter how big or small  But the sooner we take a little time for ourselves  The sooner we can take it all off the shelves  It takes time to heal and unravel the mess And reaching out will always help us progress But sometimes we have to be a little selfish And look out for ourselves when things are amiss    Life is fickle and it teaches us many lessons  And we often lean by endur

Mental Health

We all battle demons in our minds  Anxiety and depression are so unkind We all go through dark times in our lives  And our support systems help us thrive  Whether it's friends, family, or even a Pro They are integral in helping us to grow in making sure we continue to fight  And helping us through the sleepless night   Overthinking is one of the worst parts  It can hurt so bad it'll tear you apart Getting lost in our own heads is bad too  It's like watching reruns of all we've been through  We go over it all more than we should  And all the bad stuff outweighs the good We all have our go-to coping mechanisms And we run to them for temporary escapism Some people endure, it makes them strong  Others reach out, and that's never wrong  A selfish few sometimes take advantage The kindness they offer can feel like a bandage  But they prey on our ability to think and cope  And give us all a false sense of hope  But there are a selfless few out there  And they are the ones t

Music

You speak to me, in ways I never knew  It's amazing how you see right through  You're like a warm embrace on a cold night And you make every situation feel so right   You speak to my heart, so true and pure Pain is a disease and you are a cure You're able to define the emotions we feel You’re the only thing that's pure and real   Even without a voice, you speak a million words You bring people together from all over the world The power you hold is second to none And you're our friend when we have no one   You are heard everywhere and loved by all You've held my hand and caught me as I fall Whether I'm happy or sad, you'll always be there You don't even know me, but I know you care   Crossing cultural, racial, and ethnic divides You yourself are a language that provides No matter the message, everyone listens You speak to through every note written   You understand without so much as a question You truly are the world's greatest invention Without
