Toxicity

Who is good for us and who isn't?

Who improves us and who doesn't?

It's up to us to choose, though it is tough

Who we want by our sides, when life gets rough

Friendships are a dime a dozen, that's a fact

And everyone claims that they have your back

As we get older, everything changes

Even best friends, can end up strangers

But it's up to us, it's our call to make

Even if the decision is or ends up a mistake

And though looking out for ourselves is a must

It is important to know who we can trust

Because we all fester about who will be there,

And sometimes we're blind to people who really care

Communication is another essential

Because a lack of it, can be a defining differential

We can a do lot by just reaching out to each other

And resolve any issues we have with one another

If we accept our faults, we can progress more

As human beings we have to, in order to grow

It’s easy to blame others for our shortcomings

But it’s healthier to confront, and hit the ground running

Another key to personal growth is accountability

Know when you're wrong and take the responsibility

Nothing clouds us more than our emotions

And they can lead us to toxic devotion

We all do things for people out of empathy

And then they leave us, and feel no sympathy

Granted, some people affect us more than the rest

And these are the people we consider the best

Not everyone is the same, dynamics differ a lot

Some people are very close, and some are not

We can't treat everyone with the same love

But we can still show respect when push comes to shove

Remember, not everybody feels the same

And that nobody is as perfect as they claim

Some just use us for their own personal gain

And some are genuine and really do feel our pain

People aren't always what they seem and there is conflict

So don't be blind to people who are just plain toxic
