Heroes

Heroes, we all have them in our lives They give us hope, they help us thrive And no, I don’t mean the ones with capes Just regular humans in all sizes and shapes   No powers, masks or need for fame But they change the world, all the same They live to give us strength and hope They show us love and help us cope   Some wield scalpels, steady and precise Some teach us truth, and give us a voice Some guard our freedom and enforce laws Giving everything for us, no matter the cause   Some our family, showing us the way Parents, siblings, friends, there every day They hold our hands, and keep us warm And guide us through the worst of storms   They fight battles that we often do not see And they give their lives so selflessly They give us all the freedom and choice Yet we take for granted, what they sacrifice   Heroes are everywhere, even if we don’t see They’re normal people, like you and me Whether they fight, heal, protect or teach They leave a mark, that we can neve...

Hope

Hope is the need to be happy, when the world is weighing you down. It’s the need to smile, when everything is going wrong Hope is the need for love, when you feel like you’re unworthy. It’s the need for companionship, when you’re all alone. Hope is the need for empathy when nobody seems to understand its the need for likeminded people who can relate to how you feel Hope is being able to reach out, knowing there’s a helping hand. It’s the loyalty of friends and family, when you need them more than anything. Hope is the driving force of life, when you’re back is against the ropes. It’s what pushes you forward, when everything holds you back. Hope is the need for justice, when unfathomable acts are committed. It’s the need for something to believe in, when all else seems lost Hope is all that we have, to help us get through the worst. It’s the belief that things will get better, despite all the things that hurt.

Lockdown

What a time to be alive In a world that once thrived Life is at a standstill And how we react is our own will It has taken away life as we knew it And tried hard to break our spirits It has taught us many lessons About ourselves and our emotions Lockdown has taken a toll On our minds, bodies, and souls Stuck at home and lost in thought About past battles and ones to be fought And our minds are now implanted With freedoms, we took for granted At the same time, it has reminded Of friends who are like-minded It has renewed loyalty and love To help us all rise above It is true we’re far apart From those close to our hearts But we’re not alone in any instance We’re together despite the distance Take solace in the little things Embrace what little joy they bring Because we will be together again Or all this will be in vain Despite the frustration felt within We can’t let this pandemic win So stay healthy and don’t roam Please be safe...

Thankful

As we all battle through the darkest of days Let’s all be thankful for the ones who stayed Because at your side there will be a few Who will hold your hand and guide you through Shoulders to cry on when you’re at your worst Friends you can lean on that you didn’t see at first People who understand and will always be there Reminding you of love when you feel nobody cares Isolation can take a toll, it’s relentless and unkind It plays on our weaknesses and leaves us blind We aren’t the only ones enduring its darkness Sometimes it’s hard to fathom its harshness It makes us feel lonely though we aren’t really alone And it provided a loyalty we have seldom known So let’s be thankful for those who kept us all sane And get past the  darkness and be together again

Guilty Conscience

You hang your head in shame knowing that you're to blame then realising life is not a game and that nothing will be the same Your decisions came at a cost looking back at all your lost at every opportunity you've tossed regretting every line you crossed Reeling from a broken heart but it was always you from the start you're the reason life fell apart and you've turned it into an art Paying the price for all your crimes could actually take a really long time in certain eyes you're worse than slime and your apologies aren't worth a dime It doesn't matter how hard you've tried or how many tears you've cried eventually the pain will subside to your circumstances you must abide Forgive your foes and embrace your friends cos only a few will be at there in the end just take your time and make amends and let your guilty conscience mend

Bliss

Imagine this, wouldn't it be really nice? if everything was good and didn't just suffice like a day outdoors, when the weather was sunny not a concern in the world, least of all money Birds chirping, sitting way up in the trees and everything falling into place with ease a job that gives you everything you need recognition without delving deep into greed A partner, a confidant both loving and loyal with a heart of gold and the beauty of a Royal the only one who gets you and your every desire and a lover that craves you with eyes of fire Friends who show you both respect and love a crew that has your back when push comes to shove a family who loves and supports you through all and there's nothing on earth to make you feel small It's a perfect life without a worry in your heart nothing ever going wrong or falling apart two cars and a house with no mortgage or debt with food on the table and a dog for a pet Sounds amazing doesn't it? A dream c...

Mocha

Its captivating aroma and scintillating taste Not one single drop will ever go to waste A fusion so great it will always be savored Cos nobody can question its amazing flavour You can’t put a price on this magnificent drink One little sip and you’re no longer on the brink It’s so relaxing and therapeutic in its own way Every sip is like a warm hug on a really cold day Best enjoyed in the company of good friends And the banter continues even after it ends Whether it’s venting or serious conversation It’s also great for a date or an intervention Even on the loneliest days, it’ll ease your mind Especially when the world is being really unkind It’s that perfect blend not too bitter not too sweet That makes a steaming hot Mocha an ideal treat

33 and counting

33 years old, wow where did the years go? Time flies by so fast, you, cant take things slow And despite it all, I just can’t help wondering Could my life really get anymore interesting? My memory is both blessing as well as a curse At times it makes me feel that much worse 33 years of insanity pretty much from day one And lord knows, they haven’t always been fun I’ll always be grateful for all my experiences For my family, friends and my acquaintances I’m grateful too, for my enemies and foes Especially the ones responsible for my woes The choices I made weren’t always the best I know someday all my regrets will be at rest And for those who supported me through it all I am who I am because you didn’t let me fall  I’ve been privileged to know love in all its glory Despite the sad ends, they were amazing stories I’ve enjoyed life’s pleasures and I’ve felt its pain I’ve been through enough to drive a man insane I may not have achie...

Envy

Look at him, so handsome and smart Girls flocking around him, he’s like a work of art How he does it? Nobody can really say Imagine if someone looks at you this way? Look at her, so popular and beautiful Intelligent, funny and oh so graceful She can have anyone in the blink of an eye And all you can do is stare and sigh Look at them, such a close group of friends Confident that they’ll be together till the end Having each other’s backs through thick and thin If you had friends like that, how would life have been? Look at that family, so happy and loving Perfect in every way, with no pushing or shoving They’re like something out of a movie or a TV sitcom, And you just sit there, wondering where are they from? Look in the mirror, what do you see? A human being, young, strong and free Don’t worry about them or what the world sees in you Because someday, you'll be in the eye of envy too

Righteous Indignation

Insult me,go on, keep bitching and moaning I won't fall prey, I'll just keep on ignoring I will not bow down to you petty minded folk Or to those who think I'm nothing but a joke I've been torn apart by many over the years I pushed through the pain and fought back tears For years, I've ripped out knives from my back And kept on fighting to get my life on track Yes, I've made mistakes, I'm just a human being Comndemnd by judgment to the anger you're seeing Nobody ever remembers the good that I've done Despite it all,  it's my life that's come undone I'm still learning truths about my so called friends The one's who promised they'd be there till the end The same lot who abandoned me when I was down But guess what, I'm still afloat and I didn't drown I stood with you and picked you up after the falls Woke up in the middle of the night to answer calls You held my mistakes against me, and I didn't see...

Adulting

Remember when we were kids? And all we wanted was to grow up?  Now as adults, we're flipping our lids  Wondering if the stress will ever stop Back then we were all so carefree Life seemed easy, a breeze and then some As we got older we all began to see How difficult life actually becomes We still have to make time for our friends And as adults we’re sometimes forced to choose The real few will always be with you end We have to let go of some we don’t want to lose Now it’s responsibilities galore It's mostly all work, hardly any play  And childhood feels like a lifetime ago  That's just how it is, there is no other way  We have priorities like bills and food And we do what we can, just to get by It’s all a routine, which is not always good We just do what we do and don’t ask why Adulting was never meant to be easy at all But we have to keep running our own race Life may overwhelm us and make us feel small ...

Replacements

People come and go in life That's a God given fact  Some stay forever, some don't  That's just how life goes  We create bonds with some Bonds that are stronger than others  We open our hearts to them  In the hopes that it lasts forever  We're there for them at a call Spilling blood, sweat and tears  We support them through the worst  In the hopes they'll do the same  This isn't always the case though  Sometimes they don't feel the same  and in the end the leave us behind  And it's hard seeing them with others  That's just how this world works  We depend on people without fear Ultimately we lose them,  And we feel like we've been replaced  In the end, regardless of friends or family  Nothing lasts forever and we must accept it  At the end of it all, we only have ourselves  Because as it happens, we can all be replaced

If I ever find you

I want to look in to your eyes And wipe away the tears you cry I want to tell you that I love you And be there for you through and through I want to listen to every word you say And hold you close when you’ve had a bad day I want to be your closest and best friend And be with you until the very end I want to be there for you through everything And be the one who makes your heart sing I want to be the one who walks a thousand miles And do it over again just to see you smile I want to be the one who protects you from harm And be the one who melts under your charm I want to be the one who steps in front of the knife And be the one who for you gives his life I want to be the one who gets down on a knee And asks you to spend your life with me I’ll be the one who always remains loyal and true And I’ll be the one who loves you unconditionally if I ever find you

Against the Ropes

Each morning, the beginning of the next round The fight with life, the hardest around  It'll beat you, bloody you and hurt to no end And all you can n do survive and find a way to mend Your life is what you make of it they say But we know that  a little luck goes along way  On a rare day, life retreats and we go on the attack  But then as we let our guard down, life hits back In life and in boxing,  landing punches is a must  Because if we don't, we just end up eating dust  Sometimes life does knock us down hard  And while wounds heal, we'll always be scarred  Like the cutmen in the corner, we have our friends  We trust and hope that they'll be there till the end But we can't depend on them cos they fight battles of their own. So sometimes it's left to us to fight life all alone We make bad choices and play catch up all the time  And following our hearts, is truly our only crime  We w...

Soul Mate

Imagine if there’s that one person in life One you couldn’t go a day without speaking to A person who is always there in times of strife Someone who virtually completes you They’re the friend you always confide in Someone who knows your ins & outs on every level A person that knows before you start speaking One that you click with on a very different level They can relate to anything you’ve experienced                                                   Even if you’re polar opposites in every aspect You make time for them even in an inconvenience A true best friend with every respect There’s no level to how much you care for them And at the same time you know they’ll always be there Someone whose heart ...

A White Rum Christmas

I'm dreaming of a White Rum Christmas Just like the one's I used to know Where ice cubes glisten And barmen listen To hear us asking them for more I'm dreaming of a White Rum Christmas With every glass raised in the air May your chasers be many and iced And may all your Christmas Rum be White I'm dreaming of a White Rum Christmas With every joyful drink we share May your nights be awesome and bright And may all your Christmas Rum be White I'm dreaming of a White Rum Christmas With every hangover I have May your days be happy and light And may all your Christmas Rum be White

Taken for granted

It's a given that in life, people always come and go, some stay forever, others for just a moment or so, Either we don't understand or see their full potential And at the time, we're closed to their credentials There are people who genuinely open their hearts And with certain people, we don't know where to start we just assume that they'll always be there for us through thick and thin without putting up a fuss But the sad fact is after that initial seed is planted these are the same people, that we take for granted we don't realise they may not be around too long at all and when we reach for them, we'll most likely fall Fact is, sometimes we need that support in our lives especially as we get older and it gets difficult to survive we make harsh decisions and leave good people without a word they've moved on, and you haven't even heard Some just text and ask ' hey, how was your day?' or 'wanna catch up for a drink or dinner someday?' w...
