White Rum Blues

Alone at the bar, trying to drown his sorrows wandering to himself if there's a better tomorrow with each sip, he dwells further into his past sitting there through the night, until the bottle spills its last A bottle, a bucket of ice and an ashtray on his table drinking all night until he cant stand, or is barely able a mind already so clouded, just getting darker once a clear picture, now blurred out by a black marker Reminiscing about the his past mistakes Singing sad songs, wondering what it takes To amend his wrongs and make things right But he slips so far,  he just gives up the fight The bar keep looks at him, staring blindly into space wondering to himself 'how does this guy keep this pace?' his mind is open and free from all the poisonous memories, only when his body is overflowing with booze, does he find his victory The only thing that he doesn't want to is get in to a fight because that would only ruin not only his but also ever

Into the horizon..

Riding alone, passing through town after town only his horse and six shooter by his side barely a friend in the world, he always wears a frown only fearing the responsibilities of settling at the end of ride Sitting down in the evenings by light of a fire haunted by the screaming that he hears in his head feeling so lonely, though there is one his heart desires the weight of the world on his shoulders, echoing in the tears he has shed So much burden he carries with him in his heart so much pain he wishes he could be free of when he sits down to think, he doesn't know where to start the one he loves in his head, a smile so wide and skin so soft As he reflects on his past and everything he has been through the anger in him grows and it motivates him to continue moving and there is one fact about him that is undoubtedly true he fears no man and his heart of hearts needs no proving In his heart of hearts he is a good man and many would agree helping people with their problems at every

Ultimate Chaos

I've said it before, I'll say it again this world has lost the plot so many people have died in vain either executed, blown up or shot All in the name of religion and God, wasted lives for a reason makes no sense if not in the street, then a hospital ward, how can anyone be so dense? How did we forget that simple fact? how can you ignore the shame? how do you keep up this senseless act? have you forgotten we're all the same? We're all Human! thus we're all the same! The same flesh and blood, just born in different cultures the fact that no one realises this is a crying shame! and now we're all victimised by senseless vultures What gives you the right to take innocent lives away? who gave you the power to decide who lives & dies? haven't you noticed the rivers of blood flowing everyday? haven't enough innocent people been made to cry? When will you realise you're only killing your own? people just like you and me, regardless of Nationality or race

Our Gem of an Island

What the hell is this country coming to? why are we turning a blind eye to the atrocities that keep happening? children are being abused and killed, women are being raped, murders all over the place, blatant disregard for human life on roads? is it just me or has Sri Lanka  'evolved' so much that human beings, have become unbelievably stupid? Let's begin with the number of road accidents that have been happening over the last month or so, all because of stupid drivers with no patience, because everyone has to be in such a damn hurry, that they don't realise other lives are in danger. The worst of the accidents thus far, involved two buses and a defender. Whoever was driving the defender, was on the wrong side of a singular white line and was speeding toward a blind bend. And for what? what was the point of that? so many died, so many were injured, and it all could've been prevented. Staying on the topic of road accidents and road rage, there have been several incide

The Enchantress

One little glimpse is all it takes, a simple glance and your whole world shakes so graceful and kind, anyone can see her beauty's so rare, it'll make you weak at the knees One look at her and you're under her spell even for someone who knows her so well a personality so alluring, with a captivating smile,  any man would be mesmerized, for much more than a while The Enchantress, so beautiful like a fairy tale a simple 'hello' and your face goes pale from her voice so sweet, her hair so charming her hands so soft and her eyes so absorbing She is the object of many hearts desire, and to win her heart, you'd walk through fire if anyone manages to love this angel without wings one can only imagine the joy that it would bring To be held in her warm, loving embrace, To be loved by and wake up to her smiling face  one touch of her lips and you float almost lifeless In the captivating beauty of The Enchantress,

The Ugly Truth

Take a good look at the world today, At this once beautifully mysterious place Does everyone have to continue living in fear? Is this truly what any 'God' in any religion wanted for the world? We live in a world full of hate, pain and evil Honestly, how can people be so ignorant? Intolerance is a horrible thing, Why can't the people get along and live together? How can we as humans spread so much hate? Why are we afraid of people who are different? There are people suffering and  dying for nothing all over the world The rich live and the poor struggle to survive The extremists kill and terrorize in the name of 'God', The innocent who pray and worship the same 'God' suffer and die How ignorant can people be? just because others are different And because others have different beliefs and choose the way they live Innocent lives lost, and nobody does anything about it, That's the sad truth, all these questions go unanswered Doesn't anyone our so called l

The Pretender

smiling, living through darkness and pain finding solace in all the scars and sutures peering through a window at the falling rain and tearing at the very thought of a lonely future dreaming of solitude on the islands hallow shores observing in envy at the happiness in the world the pretender lives, broken and alone with all his woes even in crowds, in his heart the blood incessantly curled but as he moves on through life, the face he wears is strong a tortured soul, once so full of life, just simply fades never intending to do anyone any wrong nursing scars left from serrated edged blades knowing no fear of man, only fears of responsibility moving through life, drowning in memories of yesterday knowing there are others who suffer from life's perpetual complexity from failed attempts to drown sorrows, dull hangovers everyday hoping that one day an end will come to this ill-gotten charade through poetry, comedy, mindless benders and games reminiscing, memories in a mind so brutally

You

You, the woman who once owned my heart, You, the one I fell in love with from the start, You, the one with a smile that light up the dark, You, the one who owned my heart left a mark, You, the one whose love was more than perfect, You, the one I lost, because of decisions I now regret, You, the one I once called my soul mate, You, the one I would have died for without debate, You, the one with the voice I longed to hear, You, the one who gave me a reason to show no fear, You, the one whose love I could not resist, You, the one whose hugs and kisses, were absolute bliss, You, the one whose hand fit so perfectly in mine, You, the reason the sun would always shine, You, the one with whom I wanted to spend the rest of my life, You, the reason I got through so much strife You, the one whose arms I effortlessly fell in, You, the one who melted me with your cheeky grin, You, the one with the lips I once longed to kiss, You, the woman, I will always miss.

Memories

Memories are all we have left of the past whether they're good or bad, they always last they are all that remain of us in the end for all our time with our family and friends From the carefree days of our childhood to the ultimate chaos that is our adulthood every success or failure always stays in our mind regardless if the journey was pleasant or unkind They are all we have of the places we've been of the love, sorrow and beauty we've seen in an instant they can make us happy or sad because they are all we have of what we had They are the best and worst of times gone by they have the the power to make us laugh or cry because sometimes remembering is a curse and it does nothing but make things worse These are the things we try to erase from memory things like pain, sadness, heartbreak and treachery but for some reason the memories that always linger are the very ones that hurt like a scorpions stinger Memories are a record of all we've been t

A one in a million girl

She was perfect, at least she was to me nobody else could take her place, not one can I see she was always more than just the girl I love, but I was a fool and I lost her when push came to shove She slipped through my fingers like grains of soft sand and into the fire I jumped, from the sizzling pan there was so much that I should've done to keep her she kept falling out of reach, she just slipped further Through the darkness, she seems to have found the light maybe this time with you, she's finally done right so give her everything, all that love that she deserves all the hugs and kisses, that you've held in reserve Be there for her, just listen when she talks Be there through hard times and protect her as she walks grab a hold of her heart and hold it tightly, don't lose your grip like I did, not even slightly She's a strong woman, there is no doubt, intelligent and beautiful, a true knockout you're a lucky man and I want you to know yo

A day that changed my life

October 20th 1996, was a day that changed everything one simple left turn, and it was all or nothing a simple long weekend trip was all it took the memories of what happened next, had as all a little shook It didn't make much sense that we had two vehicles that day if the trees of Yala could speak, it would talk about this story today simply put the second vehicle brought six souls home that night they would all agree that the events of this day, gave us a fright By around 10am, we had seen most of what there was to see except the leopard, which was as elusive as can be our guide told us to take a left up ahead greeted by armed men escorting white vans, we all thought we would end up dead We stopped dead in our tracks, they opened the doors of the car what happened there after was testament to the situation in our country by far 'take us to the manik ganga' they said, and we did what we were told I'll never forget the events of this day,  even when I'm old It was la

Childhood

Running around the garden, playing all kinds of games thinking back now, life will never be the same sitting here reminiscing and writing all these rhymes lord knows I'll never forget, those amazingly innocent times Cricket, touch rugby or running around with toy guns such happy memories, so much crazy fun running freely up down the road together with my cousins and friends,  memories last forever Playing with figurines and toy cars alike pretending to be characters from TV that we like no stress in our lives in those care free days I miss those years in so many ways Now we're all grown up, some with kids of their own our own parents look at us and say ' goodness how they've grown' watching the next generation, run around like we did takes me back to those days when no worry was ever needed The best days of someones lives are always their childhood full of freedom and fun and the meaning of brotherhood even if it's playing a bass drum in school or wearing a cap

At first kiss..

It plays in his head like it was only yesterday, waiting for her to get dressed, so they can be on their way butterflies in his stomach, both his knees are wobbling with just one glimpse of her, his heart started to sing Deep down he knew then, that he had found love, that finally he found his soul mate, his one true dove despite barely knowing her, he knew exactly what he felt she was the only one, who could make his heart melt It was too good to be true, like something out of a film he wanted to tell her then, he wanted to go out on a limb how much he actually loved her, he didn't know where to begin he just held her hand in his so tightly and kept his words within Arm in arm they walked, that cold November night holding each other close, nothing ever felt so right  both of them smiling, they couldn't help but wonder if both their hearts were beating, like a loud rolling thunder They sit across the dinner table, again he reaches for her hand they were both so happy, smiling c

Scars

Once again he fights to go to sleep, wanting to make things right and earn his keep everyday he battles memories of his past he craves to be free of pain at long last Blood, sweat and tears, spilled like a soldier, with every hour that goes by, he feels the world get colder in his heart of hearts, he knows he's not the only one that suffers one would think all the scars would make him tougher How does one survive a life of broken dreams?, to clear a mind so beaten, internally he screams continuing down that long and lonely road, his shoulders weighed down by a heavy load Once again lying a wake in his bed, wondering if he can make true, the visions in his head, life is a fight, a battle and sometimes a war emotions so pure, so painful, so raw Battered and beaten, he keeps getting back to his feet, knowing he has to stand up, even in the face of defeat onward he plods and pushes through the demons both near and far and his memories will haunt him forever, lik

The Lords of Rum

The Lords of Rum, a band of brothers four united by a bottle like none before no bar in the land was ever the same when these brothers four, started playing their games From Waters Edge to AM-PM, united did they stand, everywhere they went, they were like a traveling band from Sinatra to the Beatles, singing songs of old the memories of these nights, though blurry are gold It didn't really matter when or where they would convene, even if the venue was a serene latrine often joined by others, every weekend was epic it's a miracle that nobody ever needed a medic There is one who joined this brotherly convention, a lady of rum who deserves an honorable mention like them, her voice didn't come with volume control but because of that bottle, even she was always on a roll Four brothers and a sister, this clan should go down in history, how Rockland created that magic, is an absolute mystery though now they've disbanded, and gone their separate ways the

The Poet

Sitting at his desk with his notebook and pen, scribbling down words that rhyme now and then his purpose for writing it was never personal gain but is a means of expressing his infinite pain Some rhymes are good and some are bad, some don't rhyme at all, some rhymes are sad, from his heart filled with emotions so raw and the memories of things he felt and saw A battle hardened warrior, bloodied and all alone sitting in solitude now with his rhymes and tones his friends and family, though they're all surround he lives his life in rhyme, like nobody's around He carries on his back, a weight very heavy, his shoulders are soaked by the tears of many over the years he learned to hold back his own because his were tears that should be shed alone His words are an open window in to his heart, and his life as a writer, with poetry did start but when those words refuse come out right he keeps writing, he doesn't quit without a fight Bad choices and decis

Last Man Standing

There's an old saying that reads like this, "and then there was one" when you're all that' left there'a always a twist, a lone warrior, who respects all and fears none, You can fight for what you believe in, a cause that you believe is great, a cause for happiness, a reason to grin, one can assume happiness is worth the wait, Now it's his turn to stand alone, like a cowboy with his six gun, walking in the wind, he fights's to win, to regain his throne, to put down his critics and all those fiends, Feeling like a stranger in a strange land, battling silently, this game of life has a tendency to twist, to go out in a blaze of glory, he waits patiently, shooting first and questioning later, with the flick of the wrist, the last outlaw, with a chip on his shoulder, the last man standing will finally decent, a true old school soldier, one day, his sins, he will repent haunted by his past, his heart in a cast, he walks alone, he bears no branding, in his min
