Cursed Hearts

Those with golden hearts

Are cursed from the start

They feel more than others

And as such, they suffer

They love unconditionally

And make decisions irrationally

They cling to glimmers of hope

Cos it's the only way they cope

But they're often put to the test

And they hurt more than the rest

Cos they are driven by empathy

And are clouded by sympathy

Easily open and freely used

And quite often they are abused

Hearts that thrive on loyalty

Honesty, love, and integrity

They give too much too soon

And they never end up immune

To pain, to suffering, and grief

It always seems like there's no relief

No matter how good the intentions

They don't even get an honorable mention

It's almost a law that is unspoken

That hearts of gold always end up broken
